That feeling when the paper opens up to you.

📔 Journals + scrapbook-worthy gift wrap 🎁

Greetings from my almost-winter wordshop!

Whether you’re opening up to the first page of a journal or splitting the seal on a present from someone who loves you, there’s a spark of possibility in that moment of anticipation. What will you create, remember, name? What will be revealed?

To bring you some of that magic, I’ve just launched two new collections at Wild Honey Words.

IN THIS ISSUE:

What’s in store: hardcover lined journals + wrapping paper

On my mind: making the most of what we have & what we have to give

Poetic pause: walking meditation

Reading the life between the lines in this leaf I found

No More Waiting on Lines

I heard you—some folks like the free-spirited vibe of dotted pages, some of you prefer a little more definition.

Looking for a companion for your journey? One with healthy boundaries and clear lines of communication?

At last, the ruled journal is here for you. It’s got sturdy covers, an elastic closure, and an expandable inner pocket—in other words, a heart like yours.

Wrapped in Love

Before recycling was in vogue, my mother instilled in me the habit of saving, reusing, and repurposing paper—for art projects, crafts, teaching aids, to-do lists, you name it. In my family, we play the wrapping paper version of musical chairs from year to year, so we see the prettiest papers reprise and watch history circulate, covering old tags with new To-and-From stickers.

My great-grandfather owned a haberdashery (aka men’s clothing and accessories shop) and kept heavy-duty rolls of cream-colored wrapping paper with silver stripes and swirls behind the counter. Two rolls still live in my parents’ basement, so his signature paper is in our gift wrap rotation, reminding me of the entrepreneurial legacy into which I was born.

Wrapping Paper (2 of 4): Blue Diamonds, Bold & Festive [Update 4/24: Our wrapping paper collection is no longer available.]

This year, I got to design my own wrapping paper sheets featuring four Wild Honey Words original prints. While they pair with the colors of Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa, none of the prints are holiday-specific, so you can use them for multiple occasions throughout the year. These premium papers are also great for scrapbooking, crafting, and collaging.

Ever been handed a gift that’s so beautifully wrapped, it looks like a work of art? Maybe you’re the tear-it-open type who can’t stand the suspense as I sit there carefully sliding a Swiss Army blade under the tape, but part of me wants to leave the package unopened as a centerpiece. It’s like wearing a jacket so eye-catching, you don’t want to take it off when you walk into a party. (Hint, hint… 👀 That could be you in the near future!)

When my gift budget is slim, I like to put extra effort into the wrapping. Creativity is currency! A modest gift can still look elegant and convey thoughtfulness. Presentation isn’t everything, but showing care in the details can make a present feel more special.

Poetic Pause

When you’re hoping to receive something good, sometimes all you need to do is turn around and be still for a moment.

So grateful I did that on my walk the other night. While cars sped past, I stood on the sidewalk with my mouth open. These words came to roost in my mind like a flock of birds:

"What if you let yourself be in the spaces between?"

(And to think I almost missed this in my hurry to reach the official trail…)

I invite you to meditate on that question as we move into a new season.

Thank you for reading and for walking with me.

Speaking of open sky, there’s something else I’m excited to unveil and send out into the world soon—keep an eye out!

Want to be the first to hear the buzz?

Stay open to the gifts of a blank page,

Emily Ruth Hazel (she/her)

One more thing…

It’s always worth looking for, even when it’s subtle. (Silver Linings Water Bottle & Thermos)
